Butterfly Bench Project
As part of Papillion 150, the “Wings Over Papillion” Butterfly Bench Public Art Project has placed 34 uniquely painted butterfly benches throughout Papillion, showcasing work by a variety of artists.
“Wings Over Papillion”
Thirty-four uniquely painted butterfly benches have been scattered throughout Papillion as part of the 150th anniversary celebration. Local Papillion artist Al Rhea designed the unique prototype for the butterfly benches, which were then manufactured by Benson Machine in Omaha. In summer of 2019, area artists were invited to submit their creative mock-up designs. Area businesses, organizations and individuals were invited to sponsor a butterfly bench, bringing their chosen design to life in full scale. Some of the benches highlight Papillion’s history and culture while others are simply inspiring works of the artists’ imagination.
